Cracking the Code: How Many Interview Rounds Do Candidates Prefer

At Hyred, we believe in staying attuned to the needs and preferences of both candidates and employers. Recently, we conducted a poll on our LinkedIn page to gain insights into the ideal number of interview rounds preferred by candidates when applying for job opportunities. The results are in, and we are excited to share them with you!

A total of 203 participants took part in the poll, providing valuable input on their interview round preferences. Here’s a breakdown of the responses:

🔹 1 round: 6%

🔹 2 rounds: 58%

🔹 3 rounds: 32%

🔹 More than 3 rounds: 4%

It’s interesting to note that the majority of respondents, comprising 58%, preferred a two-round interview process. This suggests that candidates appreciate a balanced approach that allows for a deeper evaluation without excessive time commitment. Two rounds provide an opportunity for candidates to showcase their skills, knowledge, and cultural fit while also enabling employers to assess their suitability for the role.

Around 32% of participants favoured a three-round interview process. This indicates that some candidates value a more comprehensive evaluation, which may involve multiple stages of assessment, such as technical interviews, cultural fit interviews, and discussions with key stakeholders. A three-round process allows for a more thorough examination of the candidate’s capabilities, aligning with companies’ desires to make informed hiring decisions.

 Interestingly, a small percentage (4%) of respondents were open to more than three rounds of interviews. This suggests that certain candidates appreciate extensive evaluation processes that provide a comprehensive understanding of their potential employers and opportunities for showcasing their skills and competencies.

It’s worth noting that the preference for the number of interview rounds may vary depending on factors such as the industry, role, and seniority level. Companies should consider tailoring their interview processes to the specific needs of their organisation and the roles they are hiring for.
